EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based form of trauma therapy. What I mean by trauma is any experience that overwhelms our ability to process it at the time, and gets stuck in our bodies and psyches as symptoms, difficulties in functioning, and negative beliefs about ourselves and the world. EMDR works to target those stuck experiences and help us process them so that they can become integrated into our sense of our ourselves, losing their grip over us. EMDR works on the assumption that we have the capacity to heal but sometimes trauma remains “frozen” in a part of our brains where we cannot access it in order to heal. EMDR helps us do just that. You can read more about EMDR here and watch a video here to give you an idea of what to expect.

I am open to working with you either with EMDR as our main focus, or, more likely, as a part of our overall therapy process together.
